The three islands of Grenada are located in the Eastern Caribbean at the southern extremity of the Windward islands, only 100 miles north of Venezuala. To the north lie St. Vincent and the Grenadines; to the south Trinidad and Tobago. Average temperatures range from 24C/75F to 30C/87F, cooled by the trade winds. The lowest temperatures occuring between November and February. Because of Grenada's mountainous interior, the island experiences a micro climate according to altitude. The driest season is between January and May. Even during the rainy season, from June to December, it rarely rains for more than an hour at a time.
Carriacou
Grenada's little sister, a 13 square miles island part of the Grenadines
in the Caribbeans, 12 degrees North and 60.4 degrees West. There is
a 6 miles coral reef to the East of the island and many smaller islands,
to the South and West, such as Sandy Island and White Island. The
year round temperature ranges from 32 to 24 degrees celcius with an
average rainfall of 1,270 millilitres. The currency is Eastern Carribean
dollar, valued at $0.37 USD. The electric current is 220 volts/50
cycles. To reach Carriacou you fly to Grenada and continue with SVG-air
or by ferry with the Osprey or Lexianna. Alternatively you can fly
in via Barbados with TIA.
Petit Martinique
is a small volcanic island, 4 km northeast off Carriacou's eastern
coast. Only several hundred people, mostly fishing folk, live on the
isolated island. There is a church on Petit Martinique, as well as
a school and a grocery shop, but otherwise there is little of interest
and not much to do. The island has one road on its western coast,
but most locals get around on foot, as distances are not great.Accommodation
is available on Petit Martinique. The island has boat connections
with Hillsborough on Carriacou, although locals will also be able
to take you there in speedboats.
